Week 8 Day 56: "I'm Dead to That"

Updated: Mar 23

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:

Ponder: Romans 6:11 "So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus." N.L.T.

How in your life can you put this into practice? Imagine being alive to God in Christ Jesus. Can you imagine that would even be like?

Action: When you are triggered or tempted try saying, "No, I am dead to that!" turn around and walk away, distract yourself with thoughts of Jesus, and have a plan to flee the temptation. This can happen with thoughts as well. Sometimes I get what I can only describe as "stuck thoughts" that go round and round in circles. It is really difficult to move away from them, but if I do a mundane task, watch something good on TV, not something that is going to feed the thought patterns, go for a walk, change my environment, I can break the pattern. Reading the Word and prayer is always a part of this journey. I have to plan this in advance because during the "attack" I am too weak. Christ is there, I cry out to Him and He does help and I have seen many every day miracles. The choice to "flee" begins so much earlier than I think it does. When things get really difficult I have to ask myself the tough questions, even allow someone else to ask them of me: How is your walk with Jesus? Are you reading the Word? Are you isolated or hiding? Where is your community? Your godly friends to keep you accountable? This is a practical working of saying, "no, I'm dead to that!" These are the aspects of the armor you need to fight sin, the world and the devil.

Prayer: Lord, help me learn to say, "I'm dead to that!" I would love to live as if I am alive in Christ Jesus. Even in my thought patterns. I know that "stuck thoughts" and ......(add your triggers here) are not necessarily sin but they can lead to frustration, anger, and sinful actions if I do not watch out! Thank you for breaking the power of sin in my life. Help me to notice when I need to lean in on You even more for Your protection, grace and mercy.

Challenge: Memorize Romans 6: 11-12, "So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires." N.L.T

No life in death: No fruit: Just a stump. No Power.
