Week 7 Day 46: I don't deserve this!

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

Ponder: Sometimes I will receive something beautiful, a gift, and say to myself, "I don't deserve this! if they only knew who I really am...how I so often behave?"

Sometimes we can say these words in anger or frustration,"I don't deserve this abuse or hurt..I need to be treated better than this." It might be that you are even saying that to God, your Father.

I am going to share something really hard right now, speaking to my own soul as well of all of yours': We don't deserve anything good and we actually deserve the same punishment that Jesus suffered on the cross for you and me. He took our place! He deserved none of the extreme pain He chose to suffer in our place! We are the ones who deserve to suffer.

Any blessing that we receive is a complete gift, any hardship, that you feel that you do not deserve, is nowhere near what Jesus suffered for you. Both are occasions to thank God because He is at work in each of us conforming us to His Son. We get to receive the grace and mercy God has for us without deserving any of it.

"When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5: 6-8 N.L.T.

Action: Every time you are tempted to talk or think about whether or not you deserve something, exchange the lie for the truth; none of us deserve anything. To simply rest in the beauty of this, resting from the struggle is so freeing! Thank God for giving you His gifts of mercy, grace, and His love and comfort instead of what you really deserve.

Prayer: Lord, I am so sorry for all the times I have not acknowledged your gift of grace and mercy. Thank you! Help me to realize more and more each day that I deserve nothing. It is all a gift from you! Amen.

Challenge: Think of all the good gifts God has given you, His provision. Thank Him for them regardless of whether you feel like it or not. This is a journey of faith and trust, aligning your thoughts with God's.
