Week 7 Day 43: The Very First Lie

"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

Ponder: In the Genesis account in the Scriptures, Adam and Eve had a wonderful, freeing, completely innocent relationship with the Lord, no shame, blame or guilt. Nothing, absolutely nothing, in the way. We have no real point of reference for this, only in our relationship with Jesus. Then a lie broke in: "Did God really say...?" The lie: God's Word is not authoritative, He will not surely do what He says...He is really not who He says He is....

Can you hear the lie? The doubt? From this first lie of the enemy, the serpent has come all other lies.

Action: Now hear your own lies; God is not enough, I need my addictive issue plus God... surely there won't be any consequences...surely He won't do that...He can't comfort me in the way my addictive, life-controlling issue has and will do...How can God look after me? Is He really the God of the Bible? I don't deserve...

How is that going for you? How is the blame, shame and guilt?

The antidote to lies is truth. This comes back to your journey of faith; the courage to read the Word of God and immerse yourself in the original Truth, the Truth that existed in the Garden before the lies broke in. The Truth that says, "I am the way...." You cannot put on an armor against the lies of the enemy without knowing what that armor is....

Take a verse today, declare to Jesus, "You are the way, the truth and life..." John 14:6. Ponder this all day and ask Jesus to embed it deep into your heart and thought patterns.

Prayer: My Lord Jesus, you are the way, the truth and life. You are the only means to the Father. Please let this truth become a part of me. Let it so invade my soul to counter any lies of the enemy. Let me stand firm with Your truth; Let me stand firm in You. Amen

Challenge: Recognize the battle; Yes, it exists. You know it. Every time you make a choice to move deeper in God. Take courage, keep going. Hold fast to what is true. Speak out the truth of God's Word. This is your armor.

Read Ephesians 6:10-18:

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
