Week 6 Day 38: Making a Different Choice

"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

Ponder: You find yourself in a difficult circumstance. You want to escape. You just want to avoid even thinking about life! You simply reach out for...surely God will understand...Maybe you are at the place of not caring...it is too late! Maybe you just want to satisfy the flesh...does it really matter?

Isn't this what David did when he set into play a chain of sinful thoughts and acts in 2 Samuel 11. Look at the consequences: pregnancy, pain, grief, murder, own family messed up, wow even David did not escape the consequences. The worst: what he did displeased the Lord.

Listen, What David did displeased the Lord. Does that mean anything to you? I know that there have been times when the I have downplayed sin in my life, not thought about how my sin impacts my relationship with God and others. It displeases Him.

I also know that the experience of joy and peace in my life is broken when I give in to my wants and desires in a sinful ungodly way.

Action:

Think about turning a different direction, running, not away from God but towards Him. Confess honestly, thank Him for rescuing You and put into practice new habits of gratitude and times alone with Him.

"Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." 2 Timothy 2:22

Prayer: Today I turn to You, Lord, I turn away from the desires of my flesh. I long to be godly, faithful and no longer enslaved to things that I know do not please You. Please help me find really good friends, who will point me to You. I do so want to have real joy and peace in my life. Amen

Challenge: Continue making new habits of gratitude and talking to God throughout the day. Notice what you think about and practice transforming negative patterns into good thoughts.

"And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about." Philippians 4:8 TLB
