Week 6 Day 37: Motivation and Choice
"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1
Ponder: Sometimes we make choices to avoid negative consequences. Sometimes our choice is to please ourselves without a thought for others this may impact.
God calls us to make choices out of a completely different motivation:
"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." Matthew 6:33
Action: Consider the following:
How do you seek God's kingdom when making your choices? Do you even want to?
Do you ask Him for wisdom before you make a choice?
Is your motivation for God's purposes or your own?
Prayer: Lord, please help me seek You when I find myself in circumstances beyond my control, when I sense myself being triggered and tempted. Let my motivation be to please and fear You not please myself or others. I need You.
Challenge: Creating new habits take time. Practice being grateful and finding new things to be grateful for. Make a new habit of seeking God's wisdom whenever you have to make a choice. It may mean you create a place to go, a special chair where you sit, open His Word and pray. It helps me as this reminds me that I have somewhere to go when things get complicated and I need help. It might mean asking for help, calling a friend. Courage.
