Week 5 Day 30: In Spite of Feelings

"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery". Galatians 5:1

Thankfulness: A Rethink

Ponder: As I ponder the above picture I am longing to travel again! I just love train travel, the ability to look at the scenery going by, a time to read and think. There have also been times on a journey when I have been so taken up with my toxic addictive challenges that I have not been able to even focus on the scenic gift around me. God has seemed so very distant; far from the following words:

He makes the creatures; the creatures don’t make him. Starting from scratch, he made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn’t play hide-and-seek with us. He’s not remote; he’s near. We live and move in him, can’t get away from him!

Acts 17:27-28 The Message

Action: Make a conscious effort to acknowledge the presence of God, not if you "feel" like it. Sorry if that sounded harsh but I know my feelings are really fickle and change all the time. It might be that you really believe God Himself has hurt you, withheld something from you, caused some pain in your life. You have prayed for something or someone and you are holding onto some really deep disappointment. God has failed you. Please begin to cast these cares on Him and you might just discover the depth of care He has for you! 1 Peter 5:7 I know I have. I have found Him in the midst of the struggle and joys of life. Sometimes, more often than not, I only recognise this after significant time has passed. He is near to all who call on Him. Psalm 145:18

Prayer: Lord, I cast all my cares on you today, I call on You. You have promised to be near to all who call on You. Please be near to me today in a way my earthly parents, in their brokenness, could never be.

Challenge: Choose one of the verses from today's ponder and sit in it for a while, asking God to reveal Himself in the verse. Allow time and if a word or two jump out to you, just maybe God is speaking into your soul. You are precious in His sight. Isaiah 43:4. We are grafted onto the vine, Romans 11:17 we are a part of God's chosen people, Ephesians 1:4 therefore precious in His sight.
