Week 4 Day 23: The Things we Value
"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery". Galatians 5:1
Idols and What/Who we Worship
Ponder: There are so many things that we value and choose over and above God every day of our lives. I don't know how many hours I let go by and I haven't even thought about my Creator, Savior, Lord. What am I choosing to value and place before God? Do I spend time pondering Him, thanking and praising Him? Do I really love others the way He would like to flow through me to do this? Or am I just thinking about myself, my goals, my work, my inabilities, my worthlessness, what someone has said about me that I can't get over? Is this the idol of self? Lord, save us from this. What is the antidote? I, Sally, am in this with all of you. The verses that comes to mind, Matthew 16: 24-26 "Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? New Living Translation
Paul wrote in Philippians 1:21: "For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better".
Once you have given your life to Jesus, it the the whole of your life.
Action: Every day rededicate the whole of your life to Christ and Abba, Father with the power of the Spirit. Ask Him to work in every part of your life, conforming it to Him. Give Him those dark, hidden places, ask Him to fill you with His joy in those places and may they be transformed from darkness to light. The antidote is to spend time with Him, pulling yourself from things of the world, separating yourself to read and digest His Word, praying for others and the world, listening to His voice speaking to you. Dwelling on your own weakness and sin gives a foothold to the enemy to really drag you down in cooperation with your own flesh and will. Oh our Abba loves you so much! He so wants for you to experience the freedom that He has already given you. Focus on Him, jump over the chasm of self into His arms. Seek help from a friend if this is too difficult or overwhelming, give them the joy of lifting you up to God.
Forgive me, Lord. Draw me back to You, cause me to seek you with all my heart above all else.
Every time a negative/self-focused thought comes into your mind give it to Christ and
thank Him for His rescue and love. At the same time pray for/reach out to someone else who needs rescue and a touch from the Savior today.
