JOY BOOKLET 3: God Delights in You
Updated: Apr 10
Recap week 1:
God delights in me: He celebrates when I turn to him, and seek Him. Imagine Him dancing for joy when He sees you!!!
Recap week 2:
There is possible purpose and hope in suffering as I turn to God and recognize that He is in control and bringing glory to Christ is the goal and prize.
Lord as I grow in my understanding of you help me know that you delight in me as I seek You. I know that faithfulness and obedience is an part of seeking you. Help me, Lord live to please you in every way.
Zephaniah 3: 14 - 17: Sing, Daughter Zion;
Shout aloud, Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;
never again will you fear any harm.
On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Ponder: This passage is in the Old Testament and the object of God’s delight is Jerusalem, His people. God longs to delight in His people and really celebrates His people. Did you know that when you came to know Jesus you were grafted onto His people and He delights in you. Not only this but there is a time to rejoice with all your heart because God has taken away all your punishment and laid it on Christ.
Action: Memorize verse 17 and personalize this as a prayer as a reminder to you of God’s delight in his people, in you. Read this passage every day and read this prayer aloud each day.
You, the Lord my God, are with me,
I do not need to fear harm
You have taken away my punishment
You have turned back my enemy
The Mighty Warrior, You have saved me
Thank you that you take great delight in me;
In Your love You will no longer rebuke me but You rejoice over me with singing.
Remember: You may be dealing with a worldly mindset and opinion that has been there for years. To trust in a God, who loves you and wants good for you, when for so long you have been living independently, making choices according to how you feel in the moment, may prove confusing at times. You may have been hurt by others so badly that this offer of delight and love is too good to be true, too good to trust. Tell the God of all comfort all of this, and ask Him to help you trust again or even begin to trust Him.
End of Day: Thank God that the price for your rebellion and sin has been paid completely. Pray this every night asking God that you might believe this in a deeper way by the end of the week. Read the Bible passage again, going to sleep with Scripture on your mind.
Journaling: At the end of this third week write down some things you have learned about joy that you may not have realized before.
