Week 9 Day 63: A New Platform

Updated: Mar 23

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let

yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

Ponder: Sometimes it is important to examine the platform we are standing on. Do we sometimes have to run to a different platform? Is the one we are standing on sturdy enough? Are the foundations strong enough for life-long use?

Now Christ is our cornerstone, He does need to be the platform that all of the Father's children stand on. It needs to be your platform. There is no doubt, the Christ of the Bible is the platform for eternity, for salvation, where God places us after we are rescued. Could there be another subtle platform that we are standing on, apart from Christ, one that obscures, one that almost hides Him from view? Fear? Lies about our real identity? Other voices from the past? In the present? Own expectations? Own failures? Pride? Doubt? Needing to prove our worth? The sense of needing to be enough for all the tasks and problems that can possibly be thrown at us, secretly knowing that this is just an impossibility.

The truth of the next verses can only be lived out and experienced if we are on the platform labelled Christ, our Cornerstone.

"I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Philippians 4: 12-13 This is Paul learning, and having learnt to live in some really traumatic and difficult circumstances.

Action:

1. Identify any other platforms you might be standing on. Ask for help, write them down. Pray.

2. Every time you are tempted/triggered in your thought life to engage with a platform that isn't labelled "Christ," there are some things you can do:

  1. Speak to the thought pattern: "I am dead to that!" " I reject you, Satan, that is not who I am."

  2. Speak truth, remembering Philippians 4:8 about good thoughts.

  3. This takes work, and it takes serious discipleship.

  4. It will take consistency.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I need Your help today, like every other day. I sometimes do not know how to live on Your platform without visiting those other platforms in my life. I am thinking right now of ....(fear, doubt, feeling so...people pleasing). I need You to show me that You are my strength, my sufficiency, my bread, all I need. Help me stand firm on this platform, Christ's. Then I can reach out and be of more use to others in this world, with this firm foundation under my feet.

Challenge: Use the words of this old hymn to guide your prayers today:

1. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

2 In ev’ry rough and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the vale. When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]

3 Not earth, nor hell, my soul can move; I rest upon unchanging love. I trust his righteous character, his counsel, promise, and his pow’r. [Refrain]

4 When he shall come with trumpet sound, oh, may I then in him be found, dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]
