JOY BOOKLET 4: A longing for Someone to Know me. At last a Consistent Relationship!
Updated: Apr 10
Recap week 1:
God delights in me: He celebrates when I turn to him, and seek Him
Recap week 2:
There is possible purpose and hope in suffering as I turn to God and recognize that He is in control and bringing glory to Christ is the goal and prize.
Recap week 3: God longs to delight in me especially as I turn to Him and recognize that He has paid all the price for my rebellion in Christ Jesus. A new path linked with a deep joy is now possible!
Dear Lord, the relationships in my life have not been consistent, they never can be, not like a relationship with you. You are always there! Help me to trust You and what the Scriptures say about You! I am so grateful that You died in my place and rose from the grave so that I can be free from the overwhelming and enslaving power of sin. I can now really come into Your presence, Jesus and the presence of Abba, Father, with the indwelling Holy Spirit inside me as my guide and comforter. Words fail me. I bow my head. Amen.
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts,a God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting
This is a psalm that expresses how deeply God knows the heart and mind of man; how deeply He knows You! Have you ever had anyone in your life that knows you in this way, and created you, planned and ordained that you should come to life? The Psalmist response is to hate everything and everyone who rebels against God. This seems radical, but the psalmist has a deep desire to separate himself from all evil and focus his life on God. There is a difference between hating evil and rebellion and longing for someone to come to know God. John 3:16 is clear that God loves the world and gives a radical solution to the evil in the world. All is not lost. The application here is to learn to hate the idols and sinful habits in your own heart and focus on a consistent and just God, who so deeply delights in you.
Action: Read this Psalm each day this Easter weekend!
to help you learn to trust that He is always there.

to fill you with joy with this knowledge.
thanking God that He knows you so intimately
to fill you with joy.
Thanking God for His purpose for your life.
The prevalent worldview is that there is no authority or creator outside of humanity itself. When you believe in Christ, that He died and rose again for you, that the price for your rebellion has been paid, you also choose to believe in the Word (Christ) and this Word, by the power of the Spirit (the third person of the trinity), is expressed in the Scriptures. These Scriptures are counter cultural; they say in 2 Timothy 3: 16, 17 that:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Scripture is not only our guide, and useful for life. It also comes straight from God Himself and full of His wisdom for living. Yes, there are some very radical and tough concepts in the Bible, but it is God that breathed these concepts into being. The world fights against these concepts and it takes the courage only Christ can give us to stand firm.
End of Day:
Thank God that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, that you were chosen. Take a moment to delight in this fact. God breathed this into Psalm 139. Read the daily passage again, going to sleep with Scripture on your mind.
Write down your thoughts about God knowing you intimately. Are there any places where this intimidates or shames you! As these surface (if they do) talk to God and ask for his help and freedom in these areas, thanking Him that Jesus has already paid the price. In some cases you may need help, find a trusted friend or a good biblical
