or as the Bible calls it: Temptation

Ponder, Action, Prayer, Challenge

Read Galatians 5:1; It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The verse says that a Christian has been set free from everything, which includes addictive behaviour. How could you stand firm so that you are not burdened by slavery again?

Temptation is often presented to us as something is really good.....

It will take a good gift (like the amazing brownie in the picture) and tell you, you have to have it right now because you need deserve it.....noone will know. This time won't hurt me....just one more time. Now the brownie eaten in moderation on a special occasion is not something that is is something you could actually thank God for. If you were a diabetic, however, it could tip your body over into a crisis and it could be a matter of life and death.

Know your triggers.....

Can you thank God in all honesty for what you are about to indulge in? of act out?

Consider Janet’s list from the talk ( remember she was a drug user and needed to make some very practical changes to avoid using) and ponder the following verse from the Bible: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Tim. 3:16 New Living Translation if you need to review a session

What thoughts do you find yourselves continually returning to?

Make a list. If you want to take this a step further some of you might find it useful to find a Bible truth/verse that counteracts your negative thought patterns. For example look up verses about fear, or worry, anger, or fear of man.

PRAY both morning and evening

Lord Jesus, help me with my struggle against temptation. Please help me find practical ways to stand up to daily challenges. Help me change my thoughts to biblical truths and please give me the strength to persevere in this journey. In Christ’s name I pray; Amen.

Biblical Challenge

Read the Key Verse Galatians 5:1 (above) everyday . Memorize it if you are able.

Optional extremely valuable task: Read 1 Corinthians 10:13; No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This is a promise. Read this verse everyday, you can memorize this too!
