Bible Study vs a Biblically Centred Support Group; Similarities and Differences
19:30-20:30
Both Bible study and support groups, facilitated with the Bible at the core, are important for the local church. Listen to the following quote from someone walking through the doors of Free!
” I tried to share my issue at my home group but was told this was not the place to share my problem.”
The Word of God could have spoke to her issue that evening but more often than not a person with a deep struggle would find it difficult to listen; they would feel ashamed, with no place to turn.
Sometimes both study and support group elements can be sensitively incorporated into a home or life group. Often there are people in our congregations and local communities, who are struggling with a life-controlling issue and they need a place to tell their story and gain a biblical understanding.
This webinar touches on the need for support group ministries and may help a church leader evaluate this subject more deeply.
We will discuss the differences between a support group based on biblical truth and a Bible study group.
We will approach the following questions/topics:
- How to run a support group ministry with the Bible at the core?
- What kind of materials can be used to encourage the maintaining of biblical truth in a support group arena?
- What does such a support group look like?
- Why are both important?
- How could a church bring both Bible study and support group elements into the life of the church, into home groups? What would that look like?
- The value of equipping leaders with sign posting, encouraging prayer and listening skills so no one is left feeling that they are in the wrong place.
