WEEK 4

DAY 28

"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery". Galatians 5:1

Idols and What/Who we Worship

Ponder: Someone once said that "idols are black holes of neediness", they are never satisfied. They will always drag, and keep on dragging you, into their toxicity. God on the other hand isn't needy.  He is completely fulfilled and completely satisfied.  He desires to give so much to us.  He doesn't entice us with tiny moments of fake satisfaction, no He gifts us with never-ending love, peace, joy, companionship and grace.  He loves you!  He gives you a reason to keep on going....

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
   His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
   his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
   therefore, I will hope in him!”

Lamentations 3:22-24 N.L.T.

Action: When you are tempted, say this verse out loud.  At the end say: I do not hope in things that cannot possibly help me.  I will hope in my Lord.  Remember that when temptation/the trigger comes, feelings are also very strong and you will feel very weak.  Again remember the truth of Scripture that says when you are weak God's power is made perfect.  2 Corinthians 12:9. Cry out to Him for His rescue. Call someone.  Come to a meeting.  "In [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off]." A useful, descriptive version of Galatians 5:1. Amplified Version Classic Edition.

Prayer: God you are perfect and complete in Yourself.  I am humbled by the fact that you desire to spend time with me, to use me to further Your purpose in this world. May I learn to lean on You in all things, to grasp the love that You have for me and Your people. May this understanding help me see that my own sinfulness and rebellious heart is so opposed to living in freedom in You.  Let me choose obedience today.  Let me choose You today. Let me hear those words from You, "go sin no more." Let every part of me take these words seriously, relying on Your finished work on the cross.  This is freedom!

Challenge: Read Isaiah 46 and compare the Idols described with our God and how He cares for us.  Ask the Lord, that you will gain a deeper understanding of God's care for you today.
