"It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery". Galatians 5:1
Idols and What/Who we Worship
Ponder: Comfort vs. discomfort. Contentment vs. discontent. One of the things I was pondering today was the connection between being uncomfortable in life's circumstances and still having a deep sense of contentment. What about the connection between being comfortable and having a deep sense of discontent? For example: having all our physical needs met, our bills paid and even the extras in life covered doesn't necessarily mean having a contented life. Maybe you have plenty of friends but you are always wondering about what they think about you? Perhaps you have all you need right now but there is bitterness and anger stemming from a past incident or trauma.
How do things these play out in your life? What are you relying on for your comfort in life? Is there always a sense of "there must be something more to this life?" Well perhaps there is... just maybe your Abba, your Father is calling you to Himself in a deeper way.
Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."
Action: Sit quietly before the Lord, with the above verse and ask Him about all of these things as they come to mind...especially if there is a loud, "BUT" that comes to the front of your thoughts. "But, Lord, how can I...? "But, Lord, that thing was so painful..." "But, Lord......whatever it is." Let our Lord, our Friend, our Abba, minister to your soul today.
Prayer: Lord, Abba, my Friend, I have looked for comfort and contentment in life apart from You so many times. I need Your help to turn back to You, to trust You, to live for You and Your purposes. I look at the cross and all You did for me and I bow my head and humbly say, "thank you!"
Challenge: How can you, today, create a new habit of delighting in the Lord? Maybe it is simply stopping and talking with Him, singing a song, dancing before Him, laughing with a friend, yes even over Zoom, enjoying a walk, seeing the colour of Spring begin to break through. Perhaps it is choosing not to do something that you know He wouldn't delight in...
Some of the above thoughts came from a conference I am attending today, "Living Leadership: Pastoral Refreshment 2021."
